Solid Strip Flooring

Solid strip flooring is the most popular type of timber flooring and also offers the widest and most varied options available.

This type of timber flooring has 100’s of different options available for the customer with a range of species, grades and sizes. From 19mm solid strip flooring to 11mm overlay flooring, there is an option to fulfil most job specifications.

Solid strip flooring can and has been used on a wide range of applications such as: residential, office, light industrial, sport halls, concert halls.

This type of flooring can be installed in a number of different ways on to a number of different materials. It also allows the customer a range of finished from Gloss to Matt.

Each individual floor is a unique canvas of natural timber.


Blondes

 

Blackbutt

Blackbutt is a common hardwood that varies in its colouring from cream to pale brown, sometimes with a slight pink tinge.

  • Australian Beech is a combination of highland timber that has been selected to create a unique finish that ranges from pale browns, golden hues to a light cream that can contain a slight pink tint.

Messmate

This Hardwood species is well-known and has been used in a wide variety of applications.
Its variations in colour are from pale browns through to light yellows with a possible hint of peach through the veins.

New England Oak

Being a blend of Eucalyptus varieties native to carious areas of New South Wales, the texture of Stringybark is moderately fine and ever with a relative straight grain.
It is light coloured blend ranging from pale yellow through to golden hues and light browns.

Turpentine

Grown in New South Wales and southern Queensland, Turpentine in a highly durable hardwood which varies in colour from pale to dark reddish brown to deep chocolate brown.
Its straight grain and even texture makes it a popular species for flooring.

NSW Spotted Gum

  • Janka Rating – 11Kn
  • Grading – Standard and select
  • Colour - Brown

As the tree sheds its outer strips of back, the tree is weathered which causes the soft mottled colour that is predominantly seen within the species (this weathering is where the term “spotted” comes from).
The NSW Spotted Gum is different to the QLD variety in colour as it is mainly lighter in its tones with greater variation.
NSW species normally ranges from light browns to soft creams.
This species is very tough and is most commonly recognisable with its attractive wavy grain pattern.

QLD Spotted Gum

As the tree sheds its outer strips of back, the tree is weathered which causes the soft mottled colour that is predominantly seen within the species (this weathering is where the term “spotted” comes from).
The colour can range from a rich chocolate brown, grey browns to a soft cream.
This species is very tough and is most commonly recognisable with its attractive wavy grain pattern.

Red Mahogany

Red Ironbark

Ironbark is one of the hardest timber species available in flooring with its colours varying from pale to rich reds as well as browns.
The grain is typically interlocked with a moderately course texture.

Rose Gum

Flooded gum, also known as Rose Gum is ideal for luxurious domestic applications that require a subtle yet rich aesthetic appeal.
Flooded Gum is unique in its colouring with subtle rose tones that vary from pale pink to soft reds and reddish browns.
The grain is typically straight (however it can have the occasional natural scribble pattern) with an even texture.

Installation

There are many different methods in regards to installation of timber flooring and decking.

Many of the different packs will come with some form of installation instruction and maintenance, however it is recommended that solid strip flooring is installed by a professional.

Methods for this range from traditional nailing through the top to secret nailing, whereas the engineered flooring can be glued down or even remain unfixed to create a floating floor.

Care and Maintenance

Please ensure that you follow the manufactures instructions supplied with your flooring. Below is a general care and maintenance procedure.

 

General precautions and maintenance tips

  • Dirt and Grit can lend itself to the scratching of the timber floor. Regularly sweep or vacuum high traffic areas, small rugs and hall runners are also a useful preventative measure. Dirt trapping mats used at all entrance doors will also aid in keeping the dirt off the timber floor.
  • Protective pads on the bottom of all furniture legs will help reduce the risk of scuffing or scratching the floor when moved. Protective mats will also help protect timber floors against furniture with castors (for example office chairs).
  • All timber floors come at a standard moisture content, in areas of extreme temperature and moisture changes it is recommended to maintain an ambient temperature where possible.
  • As Hardwood timber flooring is a natural product, it will fade, darken or change shade over time. Direct exposure to sunlight will speed up this process. The use of rugs, curtains or blinds can help protect the timber floor.
  • Avoid high heel shoes as they can dent the hard surface of the floor.
  • Pets with long nails can scratch and dull the floor finish.
  • With the above just remember, the advantage of a timber floor is that it can be refinished back to its original finish.
  • To keep the hardwood floor looking better for a longer time, it needs to be kept as clean as possible. Regular vacuuming with a soft bristle head of electrostatic attachment with help remove surface dirt and grit.
  • For stubborn dirt, damp-mop the floor using a well rung mop. Only use cleaning products that are recommended by the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Cleaning the floor with common house hold products can affect the floor in many ways, some causing scratches in the surface and other making the floor dangerously slippery. Some products can leave a film of silicon or wax with will hamper recoating of the floor. Never use Methylated Spirits or Kerosene as any type of petroleum distillate will degrade the coating and irreversibly dull the floor. Only use PH natural and recommended cleaning products.
  • Only use quality lint free floor mops
  • Wipe any spills and leaks promptly with a dry cloth or paper towel
