Spotted Gum

  • Janka Rating – 11Kn
  • Grading – Standard and Better / Select
  • Colour – Brown
  • Sizes available – 86x19, 130x19, 135x19

As the tree sheds its outer strips of back, the tree is weathered which causes the soft mottled colour that is predominantly seen within the species (this weathering is where the term “spotted” comes from). The colour can range from a rich chocolate brown, grey browns to a soft cream. This species is very tough and is most commonly recognisable with its attractive wavy grain pattern.

Maintenance

Care and Maintenance

Please ensure that you follow the manufactures instructions supplied with your flooring. Below is a general care and maintenance procedure.

Decking

Like timber flooring, in order to keep the deck looking its best, it must be kept clean and maintained.
An Annual inspection is recommended for a hardwood timber deck to make sure that there is limited damage and the finish is in good condition.
The following is an outline only, please follow the manufactures instructions in regards to care and maintenance for you deck.

  • Keep the deck clean and free of dirt and grit where possible
  • Inspect the deck for any loose boards and protruding nails or screws and re fix where required. Through the inspections, any damaged boards should be removed and replaced.
  • To clean, sweep any loose dirt or garden residue and then clean the deck with a specialised deck cleaning product (this will ensure that any algae or moss is also removed).
  • Lightly sand the deck with the grain, this ensures that any splinters or small damage is removed or smoothed over
  • Reseal the deck with a stain, oil, paint or varnish depending on preference.
  • Drying times will differ depending on product used
  • Application methods will also differ
  • Re apply as recommended by the manufacturer
  • It may be recommended that the finish is re-applied more than once a year
  • If the deck has turned grey from natural weathering, there are a large range of products on the market which can bring back the natural colour of the timber.
